My Christmas DIY or BUY Gift Guide: Real-Life Pretend Play Gift Ideas

I wanted to make my Christmas Gift
Guide this year really useful!!
When I start thinking about our Christmas gift list..
I know I want to do a mix of gifts to BUY and DIY.
So I put together different sections of pretend play themes where you
can see toy options to buy, with a variety of prices, and mixing in
some DIY options for those feeling crafty!
I am a huge fan of real-life pretend play!
So I created all my categories of toys with that theme.

Each Category has it's own graphic, for those of you wanting to
pin to pinterest something that catches your eye!
Gift Idea Categories: Doctor/Nurse, Mail Man, Little Artist, Vet, Little Mommy,
Fix it Guys & Girls, Pizzeria, Grocery, Ice Cream Shop and Little Cook!

Hopefully you can spot some things you want to BUY or DIY..
and then get in on the black friday deals!
Most of the items are found in major local stores(Target, Toys R Us & Walmart, etc.),
Handmade items from etsy shops or blogged DIY Projects.
Happy gift giving everyone!

My girls LOVE playing doctor or nurse.
I plan on making the little nurse outfits for both of them. How ridiculously cute is it?!
Sophie spotted it while I was putting this post together... and with her reaction..
I knew I had to make that DIY happen. ;)
Both of my girls put "doctor" on their letter to santa...
I wasn't able to find it online, but Target has a really cute pink kit with a clear briefcase.

Imaginarium Doctor Dress Up Set - Green 5-Piece - $21.99

Let's Play Doctor Playset - $10

Dress up Nurse Costume - DIY

Fisher-Price Medical Kit - Pink - $14.99

Pretend Play: Doctor Kit - DIY

Fisher-Price Medical Kit - $13.88

Even with it being cold outside..
the idea of Gardening is so fun for little ones!
My Sophie(4), especially loves it. She gathers up all her vegetable felt food in a basket..
and goes to work in her "Garden".. which is..nothing... so, I'm thinking of making the
DIY garden on the bottom left below. I love the idea of using turf..
and having tubes that they can "plant" their flowers
in and then pick them! so sweet. And I love toys that keep kids busy.
I might kill every plant that I touch...But I think I can handle the fake ones. :)

Sending and getting mail is so fun for kids!
We made the cardboard mailbox a while back..
and it is used almost every day at some point.
I never got around to painting it.. but I think it could be really cute pink or blue!
The little wooden mailbox is a splurge
but my sophia has always eyed that toy up at stores..
I know so many people who have it and love it!

 With a house of girls...
we play mommy a lot. I mean... a lot.
everything is mothered in our house. ;)
There are so many cute little mommy (or daddy) items out there..and lots of DIY's!
We have the circo car seat and diaper bag full of goodies. they LOVE it.
This Christmas is going to be a big Mommy gift year I think..
especially with baby #3 arriving right before in november.
I really want to make up some felt diapers and the swaddlers! I think I'll get my
mom in on that when she comes up to help out with baby. (are you reading this mom? :)

And here's a whole nother batch of little mommy gifts!
I found so many great DIY projects..I couldn't edit this list down.. had to share. ;)

Fix it time! I am seriously considering making..
or getting my husband to make.. one of these tool tables below!
My girls are always drawn to those things at friend's houses.
And I have to hide my tape measurer from them.. they are fascinated by it. I think a kid friendly version might be good to have. :) I put the hammering toy on this list...
only because sienna loves it so much whenever we go to IKEA.
I'm not sure I could handle that in our house... all the time.. ;)

I came across the felt dog treats and almost died!!
So cute! My girls are really into animals.. and doctor... so playing vet is the perfect combo!
I have seen some cute DIY stuffed animal band aids out there too.
I think my girls would flip over the little cage and vet kit!

Do you have a little artist in your house?? We have the IKEA easel and love it. And the monster crayon bag?!? adorable. There are so many great ways to showcase and carry around your little ones crayons! and I think every kid loves crayons..and loves putting them in something.
My sienna fills up purses and baskets all day long.
She would love having a spot for each crayon and then taking it to church with us!

Love these gift ideas for your little chef!
We have a little kitchen area in our Play Room and the girls are in there every day..
cooking up something yummy! Sharing a link to my felt food in this round up.
I made up a bunch of stuff one year..most of them really easy to do!
I love when the girls bring me a plate full of yummy felt donuts, cookies,
bacon and lettuce. perfect snack combo. ;)
I loveeee the elephant apron. it's too adorable.

Kids love the idea of buying stuff...
putting stuff into their cart!
Here's some cute and fun grocery themed items..
I love the felt money. and the little grocery basket.... $8.99?? love it.
My sienna would carry that around all day!

I scream, You scream,
We all scream for Ice Cream!
I think some of these items are soo cute! I love the idea of filling up
containers with different colors of play dough and making cute labels.
Shared my ice cream felt board in this set.. I'm not selling them at this time,
But hope you can get some inspiration to make your own!
My girls LOVE stacking up the flavors.
Sienna sometimes licks the felt..still working on that. ;)

Pizza and kids... it just goes together!
My girls love the felt Pizza I made them. I love the idea of little ones being able to count
the toppings as they put them on... or making their pizza up just how they want it!
And kids love the pizza shop fun of taking orders and making the delivery. :)

Thanks for checking out my
Christmas Gift Guide for 2012!
Happy gifting everyone!

Baby Book - 38 Weeks Bump

BLANQI Mama
38 Weeks Pregnant! Still chugging a long.
Starting to feel prettyyyyy uncomfortable. The last few weeks are always so hard.
You start getting signs of labor..and you go into constant "could this be it???" mode.
And then when you try and just forget about being pregnant..you can't!
Because every random person and their neighbor are reminding you that you are pregnant! Asking when you are due..telling you you look like you are about to pop.
But...if people didn't say anything.. you would end up crying about that too. ;)
So..it's just part of being pregnant at the end! I must say though..
I decided I love the lady at our grocery's bakery counter. She made me feel awesome.
She knew how to talk to a pregnant lady..telling me I must be having a girl
because I have a glow! Girl or boy..I'll take that type of comment over
the one I got 5 minutes later in the meat department..
"you can't have much longer... can you????"
Contractions are still coming.. and getting more intense.
Hoping they are doing something.
My next check up is friday..and I'm anxious to see if I've progressed at all.
When I was at the hospital for one of our false alarms..they thought I was in early stages of labor with how my contractions were coming in..how I had the bloody show ALL day..
and how I was dilating and effaced.. so they had me walk around for an hour and
then re-examined me. they said jumping jacks were ok....
so inbetween some contractions we did some galloping through the hospital halls.
my husband of course had to video tape it. ;)

I'm happy to hang in there these last couple weeks till my due date.. but I just wish these contractions didn't make me so miserable. Tonight I just sat on my butt the
whole night. I tried to get up a few times and I just couldn't do it.
The contractions and the back pain hurt too much.
I mightttttt have broken down in tears for 2 minutes of a pitty party to my husband.
might have. ;) I'm not officially admitting to that.

Thanks for following a long my pregnancy journey with baby #3!!
I can't wait to share the news when he or she finally stops teasing us and arrives! :)
It's amazing how you forget all these little sufferings once the baby comes
because you are just so happy and in awe of this new life and in love!
I'm going to make myself remember though in the teenage years..
and remind them of my sufferings often. ;)

Our Playroom Reveal - DIY Details & Storage Solutions!

I am so excited to share our girls' playroom!!
It's full of past DIY projects and budget friendly storage solutions.
With Baby #3 arriving soon..I was really wanting to
have this play space all done for our big girls.
PAINT COLOR: Martha Stewart, 'Sunken Pool' - Satin.
One of my favorite touches is the SUPER SOFT rug from RugsUSA.com.
I thought the room was cute without it...but it made it so much more inviting and
comfy once we put it down! With how much the girls sit on the floor and play,
I was happy to give them that pretty cushion. :)
I also love their play kitchen pieces. We grabbed them up at a Church Flea Market
and a local Thrift Store. I think the total for the 3 pieces was $15.
I had spray painted two of them white to freshen them up. I LOVED playing Kitchen when I was little.. so It makes me sooo happy seeing the girls love playing in that space.
There are some key things I wanted to do to
make the space functional and cute..
I'll share all those details in this post!

STORAGE for TOYS- We had the long IKEA EXPEDIT Bookcase in the Girls' Bedroom..
and realized it made more sense to turn it on it's side(Ikea sells legs to go with it)
so the girls could use every bin and mess up/clean up themselves!
The pink bins are also from IKEA. They are soft but durable. love them.
This storage solution is the saving grace for this room...
I go in a couple times a day and throw everything back in.. helps to keep it under control!
Also, the Yellow basket on the floor in corner... more storage!
It's a great dollar store container where I put all their little people and cars in.

STORAGE for Books, Blocks & Felt Softies - I used two IKEA Shelves for this storage area. My Girls love blocks..but it drives me crazy having them all mixed in with the toys! They never actually play with them when that happens. So I knew I needed them to have their own space. These cheerful yellow Dollar store baskets worked great.
They can carry the basket in to the family room.. build a train..and then put them all back!
I had a white basket that I filled with their Soft Felt Monsters and owls.
I thought they were too cute to not display all together!
Sienna LOVES these. I like watching her make them talk to each other
and give kisses and say "you beautiful." ;)
I also wanted to store a few books in the playroom.
(They have a few wall shelves in their room for their other books)
I had used these plastic dollar store animals to make
(I used hot glue on those so I could easily pop them off and use them again for this project!)
I'll do a blog post soon sharing how these Animal Book Ends came together!
But super easy DIY project... and I love how it looks on the shelf!

STORAGE for PLAY FOOD- I used an old 3 tier bin to hold all
their play food in when they weren't playing with them.
It helps them with clean up to have a special place for the food!
I've made Felt Food for them a couple birthdays ago.. I loveee felt.
It makes me so happy too when they bring a big plate stacked high with felt donuts and cookies.
They know how to feed a pregnant mama ;)
CAFE AWNING - I wanted to do something to define their play kitchen space.
I had a HUGE cardboard IKEA box leftover. I painted it white with leftover ceiling paint.. taped off stripes... and spray painted it yellow! I used some shelf brackets from home depot laying around.. and we used them to hang up the cardboard. It's not a heavy piece.. We were able to angle it down and then attach it to the brackets on the end with a screw and a bolt and nut. My hubby helped me with all the shelf and awning hanging on this project. :)
SPRAY PAINTED TABLE- We had an IKEA table that had been loved..very loved.
So it needed some attention. a couple coats of yellow spray paint
and It was like brand new! I went through a phase where I wanted to paint everything yellow. ;)

STORAGE for DOLLS & STUFFED ANIMALS-  I used 2 wood crates, that I got for a great price at JoAnns with coupons, to put up and away their favorite baby dolls and stuffed animals.
They girls LOVE the baby crib that was mine when I was little! It is nice because all the doll clothes are stored underneath. Sienna is known to go in and take
out ALL of these clothes.. but it's easy enough to throw them all back in. :)
Sophie loves to dress up the babies AND the animals.
The Cardboard Ticket Booth in the corner was from the girls' Vintage Circus Birthday Party.
It was such a fun DIY project! And it's now used as a puppet theatre and store. ;)

FELT BOARD - I needed a place to display the Felt Board because I thought it turned out so cute! It is just hanging on two nails..and when they want to play with
it I pull it down for them and lean it against the bookcase or a wall.
On the IKEA Bookcase we put out some of their toys they play with often.
My girls LOVE making music.. so we have some instruments. and they LOVE their camera (I would buy that toy from target for every 2 yr old I know! haha.) Sienna got the elephant last christmas and her and sophie love playing with it together. and fighting over the purple ball.
I'm not really a fan of puzzles.. so many peices!! BUT... the girls love them. So I'm hoping by displaying them all put together..right where they can see them.. they will get the idea of putting them back there when they are done. still working out the kinks.
ben has found me putting together the puzzles/putting them away many times..
and gives me a hard time for playing with the girls' toys.. har har. ;)

I wanted to put some photos in the playroom of the girls! They love seeing themselves. ;)
And I also have, in the space, the DIY Cardboard Mailbox I made them.
Sophie loves playing mail right now. she sends herself mail..
waits a couple minutes and goes back to check it. hehe.

Hope you enjoyed checking out Sophie and Sienna's Playroom!
This is how the space looked the first time I arranged it.
(half of it being my office area..which is now on the other side of the room...I'll post more on that later.)
It was fun putting it together for them..and makes me so happy knowing
we have a place for everything...it makes the quick clean ups so much easier!
I also love seeing all of our past DIY projects together in the space..
I love being a mom! :)

Our DIY Hutch Makeover

I love my man.
and I love that he went to help an old lady clean
out her house and ended up with this hutch!
They were going to trash it..and he grabbed it up.
We painted it white to match our style more..soften it up.
I FINALLY had a place to display all of our pottery barn wedding dishes!
I eventually want to get cute new handles for the bottom storage..
and stencil the back wall! But for now.. I am one happy mama.

PAINTS:
Primer.....Semi-Gloss Spray Paint
Top Coat....Behr Semi-Gloss, Polar Bear.

Baby Book - 37 Weeks Bump

BLANQI Mama
There comes a point in your pregnancy..
You just don't to talk about your pregnancy...haha.
I'm ready to stop talking about my symptoms and
start talking about a cute newborn!! way more fun. ;)
But..I'm almost there! Trying to smile and ignore the random ladies
in the grocery store line who tell me I look like I'm about to POP.
My husband later told me (after witnessing a lady say that) that he
was thinking "ooohhh no...now she's done it" haha.
He thought my hormonal pregnant lady wrath was about go off.
You already FEEL like you are about to burst..
you don't want people to tell you you LOOK like it. ;)
However, a perk of being pregnant... Nesting.
We've been deep cleaning... organizing... finishing projects!
and by "we" I mean me... and my husband who gets
dragged into it because I need him. :)
Ben doesn't believe in nesting..
he thinks it's just how pregnant women try to get the baby out.
There is some truth to that. ;)
Grow baby grow! Can't wait to meet you. xoxo.

Comparing Bumps - Looked back at week 37 with sienna!
boy or girl this time?! we shall see. :)
The only difference I see is my bump now goes down while
my bump before goes up..even though it's hard to see with my shirt!

My Baby Book is filling up!

2012 Trick or Treating- I went as a pregnant lady.

Because of the bad weather in our area (outskirts of sandy)
Most neighborhoods rescheduled their trick or treating night to saturday.
It was still a little chilly but the rain had stopped!
After a last minute sophie melt down/wardrobe change..we hit the streets! ;)
With a cowboy. bride. snow  princess/bride/who knows

Ben was the fun parent who dressed up with the kids...
I dressed up as a pregnant lady.
One house thought my costume was very realistic!
(I'm not even joking)

Ben and I were all excited when 30 minutes later sophie says
"I'm done with the houses." haha.
We headed home to pass out candy! She got so excited every
time someone came to the door...
She might have liked it even more than going door to door herself.

Once the girls went to bed I thoroughly inspected their candy..
making sure to sample a few kitkats.
it's my duty.

Hope everyone had a fun and safe Halloween.
We officially started Christmas Shopping!! (Target Costume Clearance aisle. ;)

I can't believe halloween is over and we are into november....
That means baby is coming soon!

iPhone Dump - Get all up in our Business!

Past couple weeks have been fun busy ones.
Our calendar is pretty empty now...
Which is a good thing when you have a baby
teasing you with arriving early!

Our Post Halloween Tradition -
Grab up Clearance costumes for Christmas Presents!
Our girls love dress up clothes...and I love dress up clothes that are CHEAP.
They were 70 % off! Go grab some up!

MOM LIFE - Thank you Walmart for putting a subway in your store.
I could grab the couple things I needed...feed them...
and have them fall asleep on the car ride home.
I needed an easy nap day.
Lately it's been a battle to get these two to close..their...eyesss. ;)
They don't want to miss a thing!
8:00 AM. Show time. Sophie invited the
audience to join her on stage to dance.
It was a little too early to share my moves with the world though.
Sienna then took over the stage while Sophie had a wardrobe change.
Bottom Photo: Hours later... sophie was still singing....... loudly. ;)

37 Weeks Pregnant Face.
This sweet baby won't come soon enough now!
Mommy is busting out of her "winter clothes"...
but I just can't give in to buy bigger clothes when
this baby could be here within weeks!
Still taking weekly shots of my bump...
Can't wait to put together the baby book!

Craft Time. On this day I punched holes in foam pumpkin shapes from target..
and they "sewed like mama" with yarn. :) I also had foam
sheets that we cut into shapes. The pumpkins turned out kind of scary. haha.
But they made great puppet show characters!
We threw a halloween party last weekend.. it was so fun!!
And it helped me ignore/get through my back contractions I was having.

FULL LAP - Trying to soak up this time with just
my girls before baby #3 arrives.. I know our world will be rocked!
And even though my lap already feels full...
I think I can make room for one more cutie! ;)

Hope you are having a great weekend!
Tonight is our rescheduled trick or treat night.. can't wait!
